Trend of the week: Ruffles
INSPIRATION
Spring has sprung and with it the usual frills and frippery. Well, that’s not entirely true. Ruffles have been reworked with a 2.0 spin from the augmented Flamenco flounce at Jacquemus, to Preen’s spangled punk homage and Balmain’s filigree sleeves.
Word on the street? If there’s no trim, it’s not in. Festoon at will, my friends!
STYLE HACKS
Layer a ruffle bustier over a crisp shirt and sharp cigarette pants; or pair your frills with this season’s utility separates.
Too much? Dial down the drama by using considered hem and sleeve placements instead.
Use the notice-me appeal of frills to draw the eye to above or below the waist. Choose shoulder detail to balance a pear shape or spruced up skirting for apple sisters.
Use frills as accents rather than the language of your look. This is most definitely a case of ‘less is more’.
