Product watch: Emma Stone’s Rose-mantic SAG Awards look

Roses are red, violets are blue and Valentine’s beauty is mostly pink. Rachel Marie Walsh picks some pretty buys for Tuesday.

Product watch: Emma Stone’s Rose-mantic SAG Awards look

La La Land’s leading lady looked especially beautiful at the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards.

Monet’s Water Lilies series, which inspired the star’s Alexander McQueen gown, also prompted artist Rachel Goodwin to contrast emerald eyes with delicate rose lips and cheeks.

“Emma’s makeup has a painterly feel and watercolour effect where you can see the colours and textures working together,” she said in a statement.

Rachel traced NARS Eye Paint in ‘Snake Eyes’, a long-wearing emerald shimmer, under Emma’s lower lashes and inside her eyes’ inner corners.

Then she washed a cream shimmer, NARS Eye Shadow in ‘Edie’, €25, over the contour and an intense matte-green shadow over each lid.

Try NYX Hot Singles Eye Shadow, €5, in ‘Kush’ for the same effect.

A dab of NARS new Soft Matte Complete Concealer, €28, creates a flawless camouflage.

NARS Blush in ‘Dolce Vita’, €30, gave the apples of the Emma’s cheeks an elegant flush and coat of nude-rose lipstick finished the look.

Emma wore NARS Audacious Lipstick in ‘Brigitte’, €30, but any nude pink just a little deeper than your own lip colour brightens the complexion.

... Or go for classic Hollywood glam with Bobbi Brown ‘Red Hot’ Collection

We all have a favourite red lipstick but how to balance such a strong colour without looking overdone?

Study fair-skinned beauties like Emma Watson and Katy Perry on the red carpet and the answer is clear: sheer eyes, classic black liner and lightly-flushed cheeks.

Contouring is out, bronzer is excessive and brows are perfectly arched. It is all about that red-hot lipstick.

As is Bobbi Brown’s latest colour collection, which centres on red lippies but also includes a balancing eye palette and blush.

The Bobbi Brown Lux Lip Colour, €32.50, is available in eight new full-colour reds. The formula is naturally plumping thanks to a feast of hydrating plant oils.

Each shade has a radiant finish. Blue-reds like ‘Retro Red’ and ‘Parisian Red’ are best for fair skin with pink undertones. Warmer skin can get away with brick or orangey-reds like ‘Flame’ and ‘Red Berry.’

The ‘Sultry Nude’ Eye and Cheek Palette, €58, includes sheer pink, truffle and champagne shimmers to wash over the lid, as well as a black shade that can be used as liner.

A sheer pink powder blush finishes the look.

Prep skin with Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Recovery Mask-in-Oil, €67

A facial oil or moisturising mask is my favourite solution for ‘tired face’ as both products are comforting and naturally plumping, smoothing the skin’s outer layer with hydrophilic and emollient ingredients.

Estée Lauder blended the two for the latest addition to the Advanced Night Repair collection. Seal in the rejuvenating powers of Advanced Night Repair Synchronised Recovery Complex II, €90, (or any antioxidant serum) with this mask-in-oil.

Conceived as the final step in your nightly skincare routine, the formula is rich in reparative extracts but feels light and non-greasy. It helps lock out daily assaults with powerful antioxidants, including coffee seed extract, vitamin C and vitamin E.

It best suits normal to dry skin. The fragrance is mild enough not to bother sensitive skin.

Anti-inflammatory extracts combat redness. A ‘lipid complex’ provides plenty of Omega 3 and 6, which bolsters skin’s natural moisture barrier and leave your face feeling silky.

The concentrated formula doubles as a ‘booster’. Add a few drops to your day cream or foundation for enhanced radiance and an antioxidant hit.

Say it with peonies

Acqua Di Parma Peonia Nobile Special Edition Eau de Parfum, €134/100ml

Roses are a Valentine’s staple and gifts like Jo Malone London Red Roses Bath Oil, €22/30ml or Roses de Chloé Eau de Toilette, €73.50/50ml, will always be welcome this time of year.

Peonies are prettier, I think, and also more interesting, at least in the fragrance world, as scents devoted to their opulent blooms are relatively rare.

Acqua di Parma offers a special edition of their Peonia Nobile Eau de Parfum this month.

Acqua di Parma’s women’s fragrances are usually inspired by the gardens of aristocratic villas in its native Emilia-Romagna.

Peonia Nobile is an intoxicating chypre with a formula built around peony.

Such formulas are typically heavy on jasmine sambac or damask rose, and this is a girlier change for spring.

The stylish bottle is a glass homage to Art Deco jewels and features a lavish whorl of peony petals in deep shades of magenta.

The same decoration encircles the hat-box style packaging.

The brand has made this special edition especially sweet, aiming to capture the peony’s scent at the moment of its flowering.

The energetic, slightly fruity opening is characterised by vibrant accents of black pepper blended with soft notes of raspberry, a gentle prelude to the rich floral heart, where sumptuous notes of peony are enhanced by bright geranium, soft delicate Turkish rose and freesia.

This seductive harmony chorus fades into the velvety, enveloping tones of the amber base notes, intertwined with the woody accents of patchouli and musk.

Pack your makeup like a Harajuku girl

Anya Hindmarch Girlie Stuff ‘Kawaii’ Cosmetics Case, €195

‘Kawaii’,’ Japanese for ‘charming,’ describes most of the accessories in Anya Hindmarch’s new collection, but this one is just the cutest.

The peach shell is stitched with the designer’s cartoonish take on an emoji and sealed with a leather ‘Girlie Stuff’-print placket.

The interior is lined, protecting its little face from blush explosions or oil spills within, and includes a logo-detailed panel.

Hindmarch, currently celebrating 30 years in fashion is famously hyper-organised and fortune does favour the prepared.

Keeping your makeup essentials in a brightly-coloured bag makes for faster touch-ups.
