Get the look: Reese Witherspoon, actress

The beauty at last week’s Golden Globes was bold and fun, with many actresses opting for a bright lip or pastel eye makeup to complement the spring fashion.

Restricting colour trends to eye or lips (never both) is a cardinal rule of tasteful makeup and it was interesting to see Reese Witherspoon break it so beautifully.

Makeup artist Molly R Stern’s “glamorous yet natural Hollywood look” was inspired by the butter sherbet colour of the star’s custom-made Versace gown.

EYES

Molly applied Make Up For Ever’s Aqua XL Waterproof Liner in Me 42, €19. Over that she layered Chantecaille Mermaid Eye Colour in Triton, €34, which she buffed into the liner.

For a concentration of colour close to the lash line, she then applied Chantecaille Le Chrome Luxe Eye Duo, €57, in Monte Carlo.

She repeated the same combination underneath the lash line to enhance the almond shape of Reese’s eyes.

She then tightly lined the inner lash line using Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Precision Liquid Eyeliner, €22, first in Plum Desire, and then using Gilded Brown to define the outer lash line.

She finished by sweeping two coats of Kevyn Aucoin The Essential Mascara, €31, through Reese’s lashes.

FACE

The most natural element was Reese’s complexion.

Molly used a spritz of Chantecaille Pure Rosewater Mist, €60, to prep her face.

This blend of rose extract, glycerine and perfume may have a slight toning effect, but the Vitamin C-rich serum she applied next is a surer route to bright, even skin. Molly used Natura Bissé C+C Vitamin Complex, €187.75, which contains lots of plant oils and creates a dewy base. It is a nice product but there’s no need to spend this much to get a great Vitamin C serum.

Andalou Turmeric + C Enlighten Serum 32ml, €18.64, at Holland&Barrett, and Resist Anti-Aging Super Antioxidant Serum, €39 at paulaschoice-eu.com are both fragrance-free and rich in Vitamin C.

Skin plumped, Molly applied Chantecaille Future Skin Oil-Free Gel Foundation, €79, just sparingly, to even out Reese’s glow. She avoided the eyelids, as hydrating foundation does a poor job of keeping shadow in place.

Next, she enhanced Reese’s cheekbones by shading the hollows beneath with a sheer matte contouring cream.

Try Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base, €39. Dabs of Chantecaille Liquid Lumiere Anti-Aging Illuminator in Brilliance, €38, served as highlighter. Chantecaille Cheek Gelee Hydrating Gel Cream Blush in Happy, €38, was added to the apples of her cheek for a soft rose-glow. No natural flush is just one colour, so she blended a matte pink blush on top. Try NARS Blush, €31, in Amour.

LIPS

For Reese’s lips, Molly combined a sheer and matte pigments for an intense pop of colour.

She used Chantecaille Matte Chic Liquid Lipstick in Marisa, €36, and Chantecaille Lip Chic in Lily, €39, both new shades for this season.
