Diane Kruger’s Chanel Haute Couture ensemble stood out among the many lavish gowns at Monday’s 2015 Met Gala in New York. 

The German star picks the “China: Through the Looking Glass” theme up with her red Judith Leiber clutch.

There were so many A-listers on the Met Gala red carpet that a TV star like Lizzy Caplan needed a really special look to make the best-dressed lists.

This beautifully-detailed Donna Karan gown in pink-champagne silk, has delicate beading and gold embroidery.

Katie Holmes wore a midnight blue design by Zac Posen (seen here in the left background) to the 2015 Met Gala.

Her crystal-patterned dress is upstaged by that choppy Dawn O’ Porter bob. It is probably a wig and why not? With such an understated look it seems almost edgy.

Jennifer Lawrence’s Dior Haute Couture gown was a mini-dress on the Spring 2015 catwalk. J-Law should have left it there.

Long or short, this look isn’t a cute choice for a formal event. The actress is as lovely as ever but the dress just isn’t special enough.
