Trend of the week: 50 shades of grey
Maybe it’s the upcoming 50 Shades film that has the fashion world going grey. Maybe it’s because the versatile hue is more than the sum of its parts. Worked through in knitted textures or with a stainless steel sheen, the sober non-colour magically morphs from moody to magnificent. What’s boring about that?
◆ Work the trend head-to-toe as seen at Haider Ackermann and Lanvin.
◆ Too bland? Try tonal dressing in contrasting grey shades and textures (think wool, knits, patent leather) for a multi-dimensional look.
◆ Better still, make like Marc Jacobs and Miu Miu by breaking up the palette with punchy shots of cobalt, orange or yellow.
◆ One investment piece? Try a chic single-breasted coat for seasonal cost-per-wear ratio.
