Street Trend: Rebecca Horan

What are you wearing? I’m wearing a Maje pantsuit from BT2 (€180), Shoes from Zara (€39.99 on sale), Malene Birger top (€89), Miu Miu handbag (robbed it from my mum!), Pretty Polly socks from Brown Thomas (€18) and a mix of jewellery from Chupi at Little Fish Designs and Alexis Bittar at Loulerie boutique.

Describe your style in three words? A beachy magpie.

How long does it take you to get dressed in the morning? From 15 to 30 minutes depending on how early my start is in the newsroom. It could be 5am, so I am quick at hair and makeup.

Fashion or function — which word best describes your attitude to clothes and why? Fashion and function — I like the normcore look of being comfortable and warm but I think fashion always plays its part in expressing oneself in everyday situations. A bit of fun and glamour certainly brightens up my day.

What’s your biggest source of style inspiration? The beaches of Majorca, Italy and Ibiza, airport departure lounges, Dublin’s galleries, visits to see family in South Africa (so much colour and variety), Bianca Jagger, Joni Mitchell, Eva Mendes, Ari Seth Cohen’s Advanced Style women, Amber Le Bon, S.J.P, surf magazines, Image and Vogue, Brigitte Bardot, Corina Grant, Angela Scanlon, my late aunt Penny and mum Birgitta.

What do you think of Irish street style? I think it’s subjective but overall people in Ireland have great individual style from the guy dressed in tweed in a quiet cafe to the very hip girl working as a barista. But I do object to ‘trend’ driven fashion — and sometimes we can all be a victim of that; also PJs and belly tops and hot pants aren’t my thing.

Where do you like to shop? ‘A Store is Born’ for wonderful silk slips worn as dresses, COS for work pieces, Urban Outfitters, Selected Femme and Asos Africa for comfort, Zara for everything, Folkster for glam, Sandro and Maje for smart wear, Loulerie for bling; plus Jenny Vander, Coco Boutique, Costume, Harvey Nichols and Reiss for occasion wear.

Who or what is Ireland’s greatest undiscovered gem? New store Raglan on Drury Street, special jewellery pieces from Little Fish Designs in Blackrock and Harlequin for fantastic finds. I also adore Lennon. Courtney, Que-Va and Emma Manley — but they are very much discovered!

Why does your style/outfit work? It’s simple but with some sass.
