Trend of the week: Mat-worthy must-haves

INSPIRATION

Hot yoga is fast becoming one of the most fashionable forms of exercise. Celebrity fans such as Madonna, Demi Moore and Katie Holmes have all made perspiring in pose look oh-so-poised.

How do they do it? By ditching the tracksuits and opting for pieces that act as a dehumidifier. ‘Less is more’ is the mat mantra; unless referring to prints and colour, then it’s open season. Let the sun salutations begin!

STYLE NOTES

â–  Sport a squint-free face by scraping back wet hair with a cotton headband. Downward Dog is much harder to hold gracefully with sweatcovered lashes.

â–  Bin those baggy tees. Fitted tanks allow for freer movement and alert your instructor to any pesky alignment issues covered by a loose top.

■ Hands and feet reign supreme in every asana. Make sure your mani-pedi hasn’t been in hiding since winter.

â–  Survive to Savasana in style with shorts or leggings that boast wicking fabric (try UrbanApparel.ie or Onzie.com) which cools the body by drawing sweat off the skin. Damp patches do not a good look make.
