On the red carpet: January Jones

It’s always a bit of a Downton Abbey moment when we see the stars of Mad Men on the red carpet in 21st-century clothes. In a far cry from her Mrs Draper style, January Jones chose a geometric, Roksanda Ilincic dress, with asymmetrical skirt and peplum detail for the season premiere.

Christina Hendricks has dramatically transformed her style. Plunging tops have been replaced with a more demure, mature, sophisticated look. She dazzled in a gold pencil skirt and a black silk shirt. Figure-hugging — but not too tight — Hendricks shows every curvy woman how to do it.

Our favourite look of the night was Elisabeth Moss. Dowdy on screen as Peggy Olsen, she chose a sleek, sexy, Alexander McQueen ensemble for the Mad Men season premiere. The leather skirt was skin-tight, with thigh-high slit, but the high neck top kept it classy. Stunning.

Jennifer Garner showed us how to wear a jumpsuit in style at the premiere of Draft Day. With slinky, spaghetti straps, a modern, leather belt and simple chain to accessorise, it’s a deceptively simple look — the outfit is, in fact, custom-made Max Mara. That luscious hair is the real show-stopper.
