Product watch - hair irons

The ghd eclipse, €240, is the mother of all flat-irons.

Product watch - hair irons

Just one stroke through the six-sensor, six-heater ceramic plates (most irons only have two of each) smoothes any hair texture. The plates hit 185°C in seconds (the optimal heat, ghd says, for getting one-stroke perfection without damage) and maintain that temperature. Gel insulation leaves the outer shell cool, even after 45 minutes. You could have more hair than a Kardashian and the eclipse would have it poker-straight in 20 minutes.

The Philips ProCare Straightener hp8339, €49.99, is ready to use in 15 seconds and heats to max.199°C. The ceramic plates glide and distribute heat evenly through hair. They also emit negative ions when hot, locking in natural oil and moisture so hair gleams. A protective re-set function recognises if you use this twice daily and reduces the heat in the PM. A key-lock function stops you accidentally changing the setting as you style.
