Fake Bake Faux Glow Instant Tan, €19. Fake Bake is the only fake tan company to rival St Tropez.

Their tans have a great colour and come in a phenomenal range of varieties. This one is an aerosol — quite perfect for getting that airbrushed look. Plus, the light spray means that it dries very quickly.

Model Co One Night Tan Wash Off Instant Bronze Mousse, €37 at debenhams,ie.

Wash-off tans used to come in one formula only: liquid. Now all that’s changed and Model Co is upping the ante with a very velvety bronze mousse that blends perfectly into the skin and leaves your legs bronzed and streak-free. It’s a bit pricey but worth it for a special occasion.

Garnier No Streaks Bronzer Wash off Tan, €11.04.

Hugely popular with everyone who uses it (I’m talking all my friends, here), this wash-off tan is easy to use and doesn’t transfer much onto your clothing. Don’t wear it when the temperature rises, though, like all wash-off tans, it’s not great with an abundance of sweat.

Rimmel Sunshimmer Instant Tan Make Up, €7.95.

This is not a perfect product, but I’ve had one in my bathroom cabinet all summer and I use it nearly every day and it’s lasted very well. Using it on my feet, the colour is realistic and it’s very easy to apply. However, it can be hard to blend.

St Tropez Wash Off Instant Glow Bronzer, €13.50.

This one is a great choice for larger areas of skin, and I love the natural olive shade. I have mixed body lotion with this one to give me a lighter tan on days that I don’t want to look too obviously sunkissed. It stained my hands after using it, so best apply it with a mit.
