Ed Sheeran has written a song about his Irish nan

The news comes after it emerged Simon Cowell has enlisted the help of the 25-year-old to write the X Factor winner's song.

Ed Sheeran has reportedly penned a song about his Irish nan.

The highly anticipated song will appear on his new album, which is set to be released this Christmas.

"There are 17 songs on the album, but Ed is trying to whittle that down. He has a song about his Irish grandmother on it,” a source revealed to the Irish Daily Star.

"The new album is in the final mix. He had hoped it would be released by Christmas, but it looks like it won't be out until January."

His nan Anne resides in Wexford, where he stayed prior to his two sold out gigs in Croke Park last year.

He also proudly donned a Wexford jersey on night two of the gigs, just for his nan.
