Panti Bliss sign here to stay after successful appeal

The iconic Panti Bliss sign has been given a new lease of life thanks to an appeal by the bar-owner Panti Bliss.

The LED sign, which is above the entrance to the bar on Capel Street, has been given permission to remain erected in its prominent position in Dublin city.

An Bord Pleanála ruled that the signe was “integral to the social, historical and cultural significance” of the venue.

This ruling comes after the Dublin City Council refused an application for planning retention earlier this year, citing its size, scale and “inappropriate lighting” as reasons.

However these fears have been put to rest by An Bord Pleanála who have said that circumstances merit the sign staying up and that it does not conflict with the councils development plan policy.

Panti Bliss welcomed the news on social media posting on Facebook that she was absolutely delighted and thanking everyone for their support.
