Danny O’Reilly’s rendition of ‘Grace’ in Kilmainham Gaol for 1916 will give you chills

As the anniversary of 1916 creeps up on us this weekend, commemorations are flooding the country with poignant celebrations of Irish history - but this one has left us feeling particularly emotional.

The Coronas' frontman Danny O’Reilly, his sister Róisín O'Reilly and their cousin Aoife Scott have recorded a rendition of ‘Grace’ within the walls of Kilmainham Gaol for RTÉ's Centenary.

The song - which we all are familiar with from that annual family seisún - was written in 1985 by Frank and Seán O'Meara and tells the story of Grace Gifford, the woman who married Joseph Plunkett in Kilmainham Gaol hours before his execution for his role in the Easter Rising.

Centenary will be broadcast on RTÉ One at 9.35pm on Easter Monday.

It’s one not to be missed.
