‘Raise your wands’ Harry Potter fans react to the news that Alan Rickman is dead

Alan Rickman, who died at the age of 69 today from cancer, will be remembered for so many wonderful roles despite having only started his acting career at 41.

For some he will always be Hans Gruber, the fantastic villian of Die Hard, for others he will forever be the Sheriff of Nottingham from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, but for many he can only be Professor Snape from Harry Potter.

His role as the tormented wizard was one of vivid emotion which Alan Rickman portrayed with immense talent.
