End of the road for The Saturday Night Show
RTÉ's The Saturday Night Show is to come to an end.
Host Brendan O'Connor made the announcement on last night's programme.
“We’ve decided to go out on a high – this will be the last season of the Saturday Night Show,” he said.
The show has been running for five years, and recently overtook Friday night rival The Late Late Show in the ratings stakes.
“Basically, after we beat the Late Late that time, we decided we’d kinda proven our point,” O'Connor joked.
Ten shows remain in the current season, and O’Connor predicted “a very interesting few months – ’cause think about it – what are they going to do? Take us off the air?”
Ray D’Arcy is to take over the Saturday evening slot, with his new show beginning in the autumn.
This will not spell the end for O’Connor on Irish TV however, as the former comedian also revealed: “I have an exciting new show in the works for next season.”
