Tony Fenton dies
Radio DJ and presenter Tony Fenton has died.
He was 53 and had been battling cancer for some time, before he passed away in St Vincent's Hospital this morning.
He had been working with Today FM before his death.
Fenton began is career on pirate radio stations like ARD and Sunshine Radio, before taking a job in RTÉ 2FM, where he worked for almost two decades. He moved to Today FM in 2004.
Former colleague Dave Fanning paid tribute to him as "the pilot of the airwaves", saying he was "the old-fashioned DJ … who used every button in the studio" and had the most popular programme of the time with .
Speaking about his initial prostate cancer diagnosis three years, ago, the late Fenton said "it was devastating … it's tough to take, there's no doubt about it. My world just ended right then."
