'X Factor' winner should compete in 'Eurovision', says Pet Shop Boys singer

The Pet Shop Boys think the winner of 'X Factor' should represent the UK at 'Eurovision'.

The Pet Shop Boys singer Neil Tennant thinks that the winner of 'X Factor' should represent the UK at 'Eurovision'.

The electronic music group - made up of Tennant and Chris Lowe - believe the timing is "perfect" for the winner of the show to not simply get a record deal, but also sing a song for Britain at the annual pan-continental music contest.

Tennant said: "British artists - Elton John or David Bowie - have not traditionally wanted to do it because they think it looks too crass. But now reality television is possibly even more crass than 'Eurovision'.

"So I think the winner of 'X Factor' should represent Britain. The timing is perfect. And you will get the A&R input, either good or bad, that goes with that."

The group also reveal they have been asked by the BBC to write a song for the contest - in which the UK has not done well in recent years.

Tennant added in an interview with the BBC: "The BBC have asked us a couple of times if we'd be interested in writing a song for Britain's entry. Our feeling about it was that if we had the right song then we wouldn't be embarrassed in giving it to them."
