One of Britain's best-known stand-ups and co-host, Nish Kumar brings his latest show to Cork Opera House. The tagline: The world is in chaos. Inequality is widening, autocracy is rising and political parties are collapsing. In these divided times, what this country desperately needs is Angry Humour From a Really Nice Guy (in many ways it’s actually the last thing this country needs, but it’s what it’s getting so tough luck).
Concertina player Cormac Begley returns to Cork Opera House to showcase his distinctive take on traditional music. The west Kerry musician plays 13 concertinas that range from bass to piccolo register. Live, he’s also a great raconteur. He will be joined on the night by his father Brendan Begley, with whom he undertook a road trip across the country in a series for TG4 a few years ago.
Druid return to the work of Eugene O'Neill with a new production of directed by Garry Hynes. Set over the course of a single day and night in rural Connecticut, the play follows Josie Hogan and her troubled landlord, James Tyrone, as they grapple with loss, longing and the possibility of redemption. The cast includes Eileen Walsh, Lorcan Cranitch, Marty Rea, and Rory Nolan.
Gary Oldman returns as the irascible Jackson Lamb as heads into its sixth season on Apple TV+. Based on Mick Herron's bestselling spy novels, the acclaimed series follows the disgraced MI5 agents of Slough House as they become embroiled in yet another high-stakes conspiracy. Jack Lowden, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Jonathan Pryce are among the returning cast members for the six-episode run.
The 12th edition of VIVA VHS! Takes place on Thursday. It’s a salute to the video cassette — the king of 1980s home entertainment. This free event comprises a mondo gonzo collection of coming attractions from classic and cheesy movies of yesteryear, presented in a tongue-in-cheek manner. There will also be vintage commercials and a special screening of the short film . The screening is free, but a ticket is required and will be released on at 10am that day.
