More casting announced for Irish-filmed Netflix adaptation of Claire Keegan short story

Emily Blunt, pictured here attending the Charles Finch and Chanel 2024 Pre-Bafta Party, was previously confirmed to star in Walk the Blue Fields alongside Andrew Scott, Ciarán Hinds and Tom Cullen.

Netflix has announced additional casting on Walk the Blue Fields, the drama based on the romance short story by Irish author Claire Keegan.

The streaming giant previously announced that Walk the Blue Fields is coming to screens, with Andrew Scott, Ciarán Hinds, Tom Cullen, and Emily Blunt set to feature.  

Tom Cullen and IFTA 2026 Lifetime Achievement recipient Ciarán Hinds were also previously announced as part of the cast. Production is underway in Ireland.

Based on Keegan's short story of the same name, the forthcoming drama will be directed by Corkman John Crowley, the filmmaker behind the Oscar-nominated drama Brooklyn, starring Saoirse Ronan. More recently, the filmmaker hailing from Douglas directed the romance-drama We Live In Time, starring Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield.

On Tuesday, Netflix further announced additional cast members, including: Mark Stanley (Under Salt Marsh, Adolescence and Happy Valley); Ruth Bradley (Slow Horses, Ted Lasso, The Fall); Carrie Crowley (An Cailín Ciúin, Aontas, Hope Street); Naoise Dunbar (Lakelands, Baths); Jane Brennan (Brooklyn, The Rainmaker, Hidden Assets); and Bríd Brennan (Shadow Dancer, Grantchester, Peaky Blinders).

Crowley will collaborate with fellow Irishman and multiple-Tony-nominated playwright and screenwriter Conor McPherson, who serves as the screenwriter for the new Netflix film.

Emily Blunt will produce through her Ledbury Productions, as will Compelling Pictures‘ Denis O’Sullivan and Jeff Kalligheri, and Element Pictures’ Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe. Ori Allon, Matthew Gallagher, Dennis Casali, Steven Garcia, John Crowley, Conor McPherson, Claire Keegan and Edmund Sampson will exec produce the film.

Walk the Blue Fields follows a woman on her wedding day being confronted with a heart-wrenching decision, as a love triangle from her past threatens to be revealed.
