Five For Your Radar: Charli XCX gig, Sleaford Mods tour...

Cinema: The Moment

General release, Friday, February 20

Having made the soundtrack for last week’s big cinematic release Wuthering Heights, Charli XCX is the subject and star of The Moment. A mockumentary, she stars as a fictionalised version of herself — a rising pop star navigating the complexities of fame and industry pressure while preparing for her arena tour debut. Almost two years on from Brat summer, one person puts it to the pop star in the trailer: “How do we keep this Brat thing going?”

Comedy: Foil, Arms & Hog

Cork Opera House, Friday-Sunday, February 20-22

Foil Arms and Hog

Foil, Arms & Hog bring their show Skittish to Cork Opera House for the weekend. Sean Finnegan (Foil), Conor McKenna (Arms), and Sean Flanagan (Hog) promise a mixture of skits, audience participation, and improvisation. Their videos have over a billion views and they’ve amassed celebrity fans including Woody Harrelson, Emma Thompson, and Mr Bean himself.

Gig: Sleaford Mods

Cyprus Avenue, Saturday, February 21

Fresh off the release of The Demise of Planet X, Jason Williamson and Andrew Fearn play Cork’s Cyprus Avenue as they round off a trio of dates around the country. Expect relentless beats, razor-sharp lyrics, and politically charged, socially conscious bars delivered with the duo’s trademark grit and intensity.

Though maybe Williamson is mellowing - or becoming more jaded. He told the Irish Examiner this week: “People don’t make a dent in the armour of the echelons of control, it just doesn’t happen.”

TV: Nostalgie

Channel 4, Monday, February 23, 1.05am

Bafta- and Ifta-nominated short film by director Kathryn Ferguson, starring Aidan Gillen and based on a short story by Wendy Erskine. Drew Lord Haig, a washed-up ’80s one-hit wonder turned IT entrepreneur, is stunned when a Belfast battalion invites him to perform at their centenary. His obscure b-side, Nostalgie de la Boue, sparks fervent singing — until he learns the song had been a rallying cry during the Troubles. What began as nostalgic curiosity ends in moral reckoning.

Streaming: Scrubs

Disney+, Thursday, February 26

Scrubs returns for season 10 on Disney Plus on Thursday, February 24.
Scrubs returns for season 10 on Disney Plus on Thursday, February 24.

Sixteen years after the series ended following nine seasons, Scrubs returns to the ER. Zach Braff and Donald Faison, who have hosted the Scrubs rewatch podcast Fake Doctors, Real Friends since March 2020, reprise their roles as JD and Turk for season 10 alongside Sarah Chalke aka Dr Elliot Reid, with John C McGinley (Dr Cox) credited as a special guest star. Series creator Bill Lawrence went on to create Ted Lasso, so expectations are high for the revival.
