Amble and CMAT among artists shortlisted for Irish Album of the Year award

Amble, CMAT, and Dove Ellis are among the artists shortlisted for the RTÉ Choice Music Prize Irish Album of the Year 2025.

The annual RTÉ Choice Music Prize, which has become one of the music industry's highlights of the year since its inception in 2005, celebrates the best in Irish recorded music.

The shortlist includes:

  • Amble – Reverie 
  • Bricknasty – Black’s Law 
  • Joshua Burnside – Teeth of Time 
  • CMAT – EURO-COUNTRY 
  • Dove Ellis – Blizzard 
  • Junior Brother – The End 
  • Just Mustard – WE WERE JUST HERE 
  • pôt-pot - Warsaw 480km 
  • Maria Somerville - Luster 
  • SPRINTS – All That Is Over 

Chosen from the shortlist of 10 albums by a panel of 11 Irish music media professionals and industry experts, the Irish Album of the Year 2025, in association with The Irish Music Rights Organization (IMRO) and the Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA), will be announced live from Vicar St on RTÉ 2FM in a special show on Thursday, March 5.

Hosted by Beta Da Silva, the show will feature live performances from some of the shortlisted acts, with further details on the line-up to be announced soon.

Speaking about how he looks forward to honouring and celebrating the best in Irish music, Choice Music Prize co-founder, Dave Reid, said: “The breadth and diversity of Irish music right now is astounding, typified by recent Choice Music Prize winners Fontaines D.C., CMAT and more doing so well on the world stage.

“We look forward to honouring and celebrating the best in Irish music in partnership with RTÉ through our week of shortlist announcements on the Tracy Clifford show beginning on January 19 and ending with the 21st edition of the RTÉ Choice Music Prize Live event on Thursday, March 5 at Vicar St.” 

Willie Kavanagh of IRMA also acknowledged the “unparalleled” success of Irish music sales in 2025.

Tickets for the Vicar St special show are on sale via Ticketmaster. 

The winning Album of the Year act will receive €10,000, a prize fund which has been provided by IMRO and IRMA, and all shortlisted acts will receive a specially commissioned award.
