were met on Wednesday night with the news that the series will conclude with a feature film.Just hours after the highly anticipated Season 3 finale aired, Prime Video announced that a movie was in the works with a photo post of Lola Tung, who plays Belly and Christopher Briney, who plays Conrad, together on the series finale red carpet.
The post was simply captioned: ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty the Movie’.
Within just two hours of being posted, the photo had garnered 1.9 million likes.
Fans were sent into a frenzy, and by Thursday morning, the post had 4.3 million likes, 988,000 reposts, and 1.9 million shares.
The movie will be written and directed by Jenny Han, author of the best-selling trilogy,
While details about the storyline are still under wraps, the story will likely follow a slightly older and wiser Belly and Conrad as they move toward the next phase in their relationship.
According to Prime Video, Season 3 of the series, helmed by showrunners Jenny Han and Sarah Kucserka, with both also serving as executive producers alongside Karen Rosenfelt, Paul Lee, Hope Hartman, and Mads Hansen, drew 25 million viewers globally through its first seven days and is the fifth most-watched returning season on Prime Video.
The first season premiered in the summer of 2022, becoming the #1 show on Prime Video during its launch weekend. Season 2 followed in 2023 and more than doubled the viewership of its predecessor within the first three days.
