Five for your Radar: Kneecap in Cork, Christmas movies at Triskel
Die Hard is at Triskel from Thursday, December 19; Elton John: Never Too Late is on Disney+ from Friday, December 13.
Five years on from the Oscar-winning biopic Rocketman and 18 months since his live farewell at Glastonbury, Elton John gets the documentary treatment. Directed by RJ Cutler, also responsible for the recent Martha Stewart documentary on Netflix, and Elton’s partner David Furnish, Never Too Late charts his 50-year career leading up to his triumphant farewell to the US at Dodger Stadium two years ago.
Forty years on from the release of the enduring seasonal hit, this documentary looks back on its creation by George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley. As well as archive footage of the late singer, there are contributions by others who were involved in the making of the song, including backing singers Pepsi and Shirl-ie, as well as celebrity fans Mary J Blige and Bob Geldof.
The fifth edition of the music merch market is back at Grand Social this weekend. Talk to your favourite Irish acts and buy their wares, records, and various other bits.

There’s a raffle with festival tickets and hampers on offer, plus DJs and live acts across over both days. Merchy Christmas is also raising funds for Dublin Simon Community and the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.
The cinema at Triskel gets into full festive mode this weekend, with screenings of familiar favourites from Saturday through to Sunday, December 22. Scrooged (6pm) and Gremlins (8.05pm) get one-off showings on Saturday, while It’s A Wonderful Life is on daily to Wednesday.

Home Alone and The Muppet Christmas Carol are scheduled for the full week, while Die Hard (is it a Christmas movie? etc) is on from Thursday, December 19.
Fresh from picking up gongs at the British Independent Film Awards last weekend, Belfast trio Kneecap are back in Cork to showcase their music.
Debut album Fine Art has been picking up as much acclaim as their film - and as they showed in it, they’re a fierce live act. Not for the faint of heart.
