Two of Cork’s famous sons will make a return of sorts for the city’s film festival in November. UK-based John Crowley will be back on Leeside to attend the Irish premiere of his latest film, while Rory Gallagher: Irish Tour ’74 will get a special screening at the festival where it originally had its premiere.

Douglas native Crowley will introduce the first Irish viewing of We Live in Time, at the Everyman on Saturday, November 9, and the following day he will participate in a discussion at Triskel Christchurch about his impressive career. The 55-year-old broke through with Intermission in 2003, and has also directed such films as Brooklyn (2015) and The Goldfinch (2019).

We Live In Time is due for general release in January, and stars Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh in an amusing romance.

Meanwhile, the screening of Rory Gallagher: Irish Tour ’74 comes 50 years on from that famous series of January dates by the late Cork musician, and the subsequent premiere at the Capitol Cinema on Grand Parade of Tony Palmer’s film. Rory’s brother and manager Dónal will be in attendance for a Q+A at the Everyman on Thursday, November 14.

Festival organisers have also announced that their closing film on Sunday, November 17, will be Rumours, a black comedy starring Cate Blanchett and Alicia Vikander. Conclave, starring Ralph Fiennes in the tale of the election of a new pope, will open the festival on November 7.

The full programme for Cork International Film Festival will be announced on Tuesday, November 15.
