 Marina Carr’s reputation was largely built on a succession of plays – The Mai, Portia Coughlan, By the Bog of Cats - that are sometimes known as her ‘Midlands trilogy.’ Rooted in a rural Ireland of myth, intrigue and darkness, those dramas were full of wild flights of fancy and boasted a rich, poetic language.
