Cork's Anna Geary is to return to Ireland’s Fittest Family after welcoming her first child, with Nina Carberry stepping away from the show after being elected as an MEP.

The former Cork camogie captain took some time away from the show last year after the birth of her first child, Ronan.

Former jockey Nina Carberry has been elected to represent the Midlands-Northwest in Europe.

Olympian Sonia O’Sullivan, who joined the show last year, is to return alongside Davy Fitzgerald and Donncha O’Callaghan.

Presented by Laura Fox, the upcoming series of Ireland’s Fittest Family features brand new challenges including ‘The Drop Zone,’ and ‘Raft Rage’ with 16 families to go head-to-head.

In a statement, Geary said she was “delighted" to be returning to the show.

“I really missed it — the families, the crew, the coach rivalries, even the pre-race nerves. Donners [Donncha O'Callaghan] was a great champion, but he’s had his moment in the sun. I’m more determined than ever to take the title back!”

The new season of Ireland’s Fittest Family will be on screens later this year on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player.
