Film

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

Out Friday, May 24

The Mad Max saga was revived in 2015 when George Miller finally managed to get the fourth installment to the big screen after a few false starts. The resulting film, Fury Road, catapulted the franchise back into the mainstream putting it up with some of the best action films of all time. Fans have patiently waited for nine years for the next offering and it has finally arrived in the form of Furiosa. A prequel centred around a young Furiosa who battles to try and find her way home having been snatched as the world around her fell. It's a blockbuster not to be missed.

Gigs

The Coronas and Gavin James

Live at the Marquee, Centre Park Road, Cork city, Friday, May 24, Saturday, May 25

Live at the Marquee is starting off strong with two top Irish acts. The Coronas have become one of Ireland's best loved live acts since they first arrived in 2007. The Cork show kicks off a summer of gigs for the band ahead of their new album due out in the autumn. The following night belongs to singer-songwriter Gavin James who is no stranger to the iconic Cork venue. He has been bringing the tent down since his first appearance in 2016 and this year is sure to be his best yet.

TV

Birdsong

RTÉ One, Sunday, May 26

Ornithologist Seán Ronayne has set out on a very special mission: recording the call of every bird species in Ireland. The Cobh man's efforts are a reminder that there is a lot to be learned and enjoyed when we take the time to listen.

Ronayne's personal project quickly became an urgent environmental mission as he highlights Ireland's poor ecological health. During the show, we learn about Ronayne, who is diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and how he learned to embrace his singular focus and hypersensitivity to sound.
