Netflix has released the trailer for a new dark comedy thriller that is set and filmed in West Cork.

Bodkin follows a crew of podcasters (Will Forte, Siobhán Cullen, Robyn Cara) who are investigating the mysterious disappearance of three strangers in a quaint, West Cork town by the same name.

Filmed in Union Hall, the thriller eventually unveils an even bigger story than the podcasters could have ever imagined.

“The imaginary town of Bodkin is situated in West Cork, and it's a wild and fabulous landscape,” says Co-Showrunner and Executive Producer Alex Metcalf.

"Union Hall really appealed to us as a location and so did its connection to the ocean. The fact that there's a working harbour there, and it's incredibly beautiful.

“The locals in Union Hall have been incredibly welcoming and helpful, and receptive to our work in the town.”

Crews arrived at the rural West Cork town in 2022 and met with locals in the back room of Dinty’s pub, to discuss the logistics of shooting the seven-part Netflix series. Some scenes were filmed in Wicklow and Dublin.

The series aims to challenge our perception of truth and expose the stories we tell ourselves to justify our beliefs or validate our fears. It includes guest stars such as Pat Shortt and Pauline McLynn.

The familiar names don’t stop there. Bodkin is produced by Barack and Michelle Obama’s company, Higher Ground production with the former US President and First Lady acting as executive producers.

Siobhan Cullen who plays Dove says she enjoyed filming at home in Ireland. “Especially shooting in West Cork. It's, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful places in the world."

  • All seven episodes of Bodkin are available on Netflix on May 9
