Does no one else miss Good Friday? I mean I know it still exists, but it’s the old one I hanker for. The one were pubs shut completely and midnight on Holy Thursday was approached with trepidation and wide-eyed fear!

It was very exciting. The nerves generally kicked in around Tuesday. “Have we enough drink in?” one of us would ask. “Loads,” the other would answer. But by mid-afternoon Holy Thursday that would have given way to “You call that loads?” A mad dash to the off-licence would ensue. Parking was impossible. As you circled the block people were walking past you with crates of beer stacked high in stolen shopping trollies. “All the drink will be gone!” you’d scream at each other.
