In Pictures: Cillian Murphy and fellow Irish stars line green carpet at Oscar Wilde Awards

Cillian Murphy stopped by the ceremony before a dinner in Hollywood for he and his fellow best actor Oscar nominees

Several Irish Hollywood stars, including best actor Oscar nominee Cillian Murphy, lined the green carpet of the US-Ireland Alliance's 2024 Oscar Wilde Awards in California on Thursday.

The awards, which celebrate Ireland's contribution to film, TV, and music, have become something of a fixture on the Hollywood awards scene since they were first held 18 years ago. The awards took place at director JJ Abrams' Bad Robot production company and are supported by both Screen Ireland and Northern Ireland Screen.

Cillian Murphy stopped by the ceremony before a dinner in Hollywood for him and his fellow best actor Oscar nominees.

Mr Murphy has said he is "just going to enjoy" the ceremony, and remains philosophical about his chances of winning, saying "what will be, will be".

This awards season has already seen the Cork native pick up best actor awards at the Baftas and the Screen Actors Guild awards for his portrayal of nuclear physicist J Robert Oppenheimer. Christoper Nolan's film has been nominated for a total of 13 Oscars.

The Oscar Wilde Awards also honoured several other Irish Oscar nominees, including producers Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe of Element Pictures, nominated for best picture for Poor Things, Robbie Ryan, nominated for best cinematography for the same film, and Kemp Powers, nominated for best animated feature film for his work on Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse.

Dubliner Richard Baneham, who scooped a visual effects Oscar last year for his work on Avatar: Way of Water, was also presented with an award by director James Cameron.

Navan native and former James Bond Pierce Brosnan was also honoured with an award in recognition of his "rich and extensive career" in Hollywood.

In his acceptance speech, Brosnan spoke highly of his fellow Irish actors in Hollywood. He also said he hoped Cillian Murphy would take home the best actor Oscar on Sunday night.
