A performer and a storyteller, Lyra is truly a modern sensation. The Co Cork woman signed her first record deal in 2017 and since then it has been a tumultuous six years.

Things are looking up for the Bandon-born singer as she’s set to release her debut album later this year and is playing two sold-out gigs at the 1,000-capacity Cork Opera House.

The first of the two gigs on Tuesday night saw a mix of young and old, mammies with their young daughters, families and of course, friends hanging out on a Tuesday night as they scrambled to get their seats ahead of the opening act followed by the phenomenal Lyra.

Dublin singer Fia Moon enchanted the room with her soft, angelic singing with a few originals and a cover of Ariana Grande’s 'God is a Woman', warming up the room before Lyra performed.

In a red costume, red platform boots and sunglasses indoors, Lyra stood on an elevated platform on the stage belting out her hits to the Leeside crowd.

The set, which was roughly an hour, saw some tunes from her upcoming album and some of her older material. Highlights on the night included her renditions of ‘Falling’, ‘29 Box’ and ‘Mother’.

What Lyra did, which a lot of performers tend to not do, was talk about her personal life, the nitty gritty detail of it all and be as open as she could with her hometown audience.

From talking about her biggest heartbreak to her grandmother, the music industry and going to a David Guetta writing camp – Lyra shared it all.

She made the crowd laugh, she made them feel and she made them dance. Her set was filled with energetic anthems and ballads, but also dancing multi-coloured strobe lights and erupting confetti.

Leeside was alive for their very own Lyra on Tuesday night, and she was for them.
