The Percy Jackson book series has long been a favourite with children and this latest reboot is sure to keep the kids entertained over the holidays. The eight-episode series premiered with the first two installments this week. It follows the eponymous 12-year-old demigod as he races to find and restore order to Olympus after he has been accused of stealing Zeus' thunderbolt. It is a fantastical adventure that will appeal to young and older children alike, parents will enjoy the ride as well. Fun for the whole family.

Christmas is coming early for music lovers as Cyprus Avenue has not one, but two fantastic gigs this Saturday. The Frank and Walters had to add a second Cork date on their Trains Boats and Planes 30th anniversary tour due to demand. If there's one thing these lads can do, it is put on a great live show. Taking things through to the wee hours of Christmas Eve will be Shane Johnson with an evening of house music featuring new releases, Fish Go Deep exclusives, and Cork classics.
Peter and the WolfÂ

There have been many adaptations of Sergei Prokofev's symphony since it was written in 1936 but few are as magical and enchanting as this. Featuring illustrations by Bono and music from Gavin Friday, we join 12-year-old Peter as he grapples with growing up and grief. The young boy lives with his grandfather after losing a parent. After hearing tales about a wolf on the loose the curious lad goes exploring. He has to contend with wolf hunters and mysterious creatures along the way. The journey helps shape Peter into a wonderful man-in-the-making. This project is in collaboration with the Irish Hospice Foundation.

When it comes to films, few can create magic the way Hayao Miyazaki does. Time and again he has delivered beautiful films that can break their way into the hardest of hearts and stay there for good. With seemingly simple stories, he explores the depths of the human condition. The Boy and the Heron comes after the legendary director announced his retirement making this possibly his final film. During WWII, a young boy in the throes of grief is uprooted and taken to the unfamiliar countryside. He meets a strange heron who joins him in this wondrous tale of fantasy.

As we gather together to celebrate Christmas with our loved ones, it is impossible not to think of the millions of people in Palestine who are suffering. There are several charities to donate to, one of which is Irish Artists for Palestine. Why not buy a t-shirt or jumper to raise funds for organisations on the ground and to show your solidarity?
