Theatre review: Somewhere Out There You American is zany but overly-long

Somewhere Out There You, Abbey Theatre, Dublin ★★★☆☆

Casey has not been lucky in love, or life. Now, she has a new boyfriend, Brett. He’s perfect. Too perfect. The pair have a Nassau Street meet-cute straight out of a movie. He writes poetry. He cooks. He does landscape gardening. He’s American for God’s sake. Casey (played by Abbey newcomer Eimear Keating) also has serious mental health problems, and her family, out of protectiveness or just sibling rivalry, have their suspicions: Brett’s a conman, preying on her weakness. Or worse.
