The Fall of the House of Usher

Netflix, from Thursday

8-part adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's 1839 short story. Mike Flanagan's series has, at its stone-cold heart, the Usher family, led by siblings Roderick and Madeline, who have ruthlessly built a fortune via a pharmaceutical company run on less than honest grounds.

When their relatives are murdered one by one, a famous detective arrives to investigate. Bruce Greenwood, Mary McDonnell, and Carl Lumbly star.

Frasier

Paramount+, from Friday

Hey baby, we hear the blues a-callin' — yes, Frasier Crane is back, almost 20 years since we last saw him hosting his Seattle radio show. This reboot's showrunners, Joe Cristalli and Chris Harris, are introducing new faces we're apparently going to love, including Only Fools and Horses stalwart Nicholas Lyndhurst as an old friend of Frasier's and Jack Cutmore-Scott as the psychiatrist's estranged son Freddy. Frasier's relationship with the latter forms the crux of the comedy, which sees him return to Boston to forge a stronger bond with his offspring.
