The Killing Kind

Paramount+, from Thursday

Six-part series based on Dublin-born author Jane Casey’s 2021 crime novel The Killing Kind. Emma Appleton (below) stars as defence barrister Ingrid Lewis, who grew dangerously close to her client, John Webster (Colin Morgan), while representing him in court on charges of stalking his ex-girlfriend. When she called time on their relationship, things turned nasty, but she’s since been trying to rebuild her life. Now, she seems to be on top of matters — until her friend and mentor dies, and John reappears, claiming only he can protect her from a similar fate.

Kerr Logan, Nicholas Rowe, and Sara Powell are among the supporting cast.

Top Boy

Netflix, from Thursday

Gripping drama. This latest run (the fifth) will be its last. Six episodes.

Much of the action again takes place on the fictional London estate of Summerhouse, and focuses on the lives of those caught up in the murky world of drug dealing.

A PTSD-suffering Sully’s actions at the end of the previous season have changed his working relationship with Dushane, and suddenly everything they’ve built is under threat. Ashley Walters, Kane Robinson, Saffron Hocking, and Barry Keoghan star.
