ORDINARY PEOPLE

Robert Redford’s 1980 tale of a wealthy couple coming to terms with the death of one son and the attempted suicide of another. Stars Donald Sutherland and Mary Tyler Moore.

CORK ON CAMERA

Triskel, 2.45pm

A selection of clips from old films of Cork. They include some of the Mitchell and Kenyon footage of the city and Cobh harbour in 1902; scenes from Crookhaven in 1959; and images of canoeing on the Blackwater in 1964.

VERTIGO

Gate cinemas in Midleton, Mallow and Cork

A 60th anniversary presentation of the Hitchcock classic starring James Stewart and Kim Novak.

SHOPLIFTERS

A Cannes-winning tale from Japan of a group of people sharing an apartment who are forced into scavenging by their impoverished circumstances.

Oonagh Kearney and other Leeside film-makers feature with offerings from the host city’s pool of talent.

Another winner in Cannes, this festival closing film tells of a young boy in Beirut who takes his parents to task for the awful world they’ve brought him into.
