VIDEO: Are you beautiful or average? These women had to choose
You need to enter a building. There are two doors: one says 'beautiful' - the other reads 'average'.
Which one do you take? You must choose.
That’s the set-up for this remarkable video which forces women to categorise themselves - and then explain why.
Yes, it's a campaign by Dove, who have been running similar body-type marketing work for years. But it remains a fascinating look at how people view themselves in the five cities of San Francisco, Shanghai, Delhi, London and Sao Paulo.
"I regretted my choice," one woman said afterwards, "because it was different … from who I am."
"I walked into that door that said average and I didn't feel good after that," another commented. "Because obviously I had rated myself … and nobody else."
Perhaps one of the nicer moments happens at the two minute mark, when a mother refuses to allow her teenage daughter through the average door, pulling her towards the other door.
Those who felt, for some reason, that they had to choose the average door told the marketing team they regretted it. It's also noticeable that friends wouldn't allow each other to choose the average path.
Clever, thought-provoking, and as applicable to men as women.
