There wasn't a dry eye in the house on Saturday night as American football player Michael Sam made history by becoming the first openly gay player drafted by an NFL team.

Video footage showed the emotional moment that Sam, 24, took the calls from the St Louis Rams confirming he was picked in the seventh round of the NFL draft.
