A Co Meath launderette owner has said he intends running in next month's local elections with the slogan "I promise to do nothing for you and I'll try my very best to do it!".

Dave Keaveney, owner of the Xtra Clean laundrette and dry cleaners in Duleek for the past 15 years, has even had posters printed up and started a party - called the 'I Don't Give a Feck Party' naturally.

Well, at least he's honest.

It's not a joke, says Dave - although it did start out as one.

"I made up the poster because I’m fed up listening to the same bull from politicians and the same electioneering promises that aren’t kept," the 55-year-old Roscommon native told the Irish Examiner

“Everyone who came into the shop thought it was brilliant and advised me to go for it.

"Sure, if I can put a smile back on people’s faces and not fill them with false hope, isn’t that what it’s all about?”

Dave, who lives in Navan, says he now intends to run for election to Meath County Council as a non-party candidate.

He's even got a Facebook page.

With his 'joke' campaign now gathering momentum, Dave appears to be gettting serious about getting elected.

"If I get elected, I’ll shake up the whole council chamber," he told the Examiner.

Vote Dave for a cleaner Duleek!
