Cher defends sex-change son

Singer Cher has taken to Twitter to defend her only child.

The superstar posted several tweets defending Chaz Bono’s participation in the upcoming season of 'Dancing With The Stars'. Bono is the first transgender competitor on the hit ABC show.

Cher says her son, who was born female and underwent surgery to become a man, is being “viciously attacked” on blogs and message boards since the new cast was announced on Monday.

She says she supports him whatever he chooses to do and that “it took courage” to sign on for 'Dancing With The Stars'.

Bono is paired with professional dancer Lacey Schwimmer.

Fans have posted both angry and supportive comments on the show’s message boards. One called the casting choice “disgusting”, while others have praised Bono and the network.
