Allen 'fed up' of pop persona

The singer Lily Allen has revealed the reason she decided to take a self-imposed break from music is because she doesn’t want to play her pop character anymore.

Lily – whose first album ‘Alright, Still’ came out in 2006 - said: “I just felt I'm at a point in my life where I need to be at home more. And not travelling the world and jumping up and down on stages... I'm just a bit fed up of the character that I've played for the past five years, at the moment."

Although she is on hiatus, Lily is currently working on a top secret musical project.

She added to British daytime ITV show ‘This Morning’: "I'm still working in music, I'm still writing music, maybe, for other people and I'm involved with trying to do a musical at the moment, that's really exciting.”

Lily says the best thing about being away from the music business is being able to live a more sedate life.

The 25-year-old pop star – who is dating builder Sam Cooper - explained: “I think I've been living life in an incredibly fast lane for the past five years. And I just feel the need to sit back and relax a little bit more. So many people in my position go a bit mad. Maybe that's because they are pushing themselves a bit too hard. So this feels like almost the sensible thing to do; to step away from it."
