Two FBI agents (Pullman and Ormond) fetch up in a remote town in the prairies – beautifully shot – to investigate a series of murders, enlisting along the way the help of three conflicting eye-witnesses.

While it emerges as a solid enough crime thriller the film also has moments of humour and horror and, if anything, it’s this confusion of styles that reduced the overall impact. It’s not helped, either, by a too-complex opening section.

Once the plot quickens up in pace, though, it turns into a decent enough investigation with an ending worth the wait.
