Tipperary native Pat Shortt's award for Best Actor at the IFTAs was one of four bagged by Irish movie 'Garage'.

Shortt wins Best Actor award

Tipperary native Pat Shortt's award for Best Actor at the IFTAs was one of four bagged by Irish movie 'Garage'.

The movie has already been the focus of international acclaim and o the Lenny Abrahamson-directed film, which was part financed by RTÉ, was named Best Film while Shortt was named Best Actor in a Lead Role.

Abrahamson won the Best Director Film award and 'Garage's writer, Mark O'Halloran, won the Best Script for Film award.

In the movie Shortt plays Josie who has spent 20 years as the caretaker of a crumbling petrol station in small-town Ireland. The plot charts the story of Josie's hapless search for intimacy over the course of a summer.

Afterwards Shortt spoke of his delight for all of those involved in the movie.
