Stones fan avoids charges after rafters fall
A woman who broke both ankles and her wrist after falling from the rafters during a Rolling Stones concert in the US has avoided public disturbance charges.
At a hearing in Boston city court, a magistrate declined to issue a public assembly charge that had been sought by police against Claire O’Leary, 20, of Westport, Connecticut.
Ms O’Leary broke both ankles and her wrist after climbing into the rafters of Fenway Park baseball stadium on August 21, then falling 35 feet to the seats below.
She could not walk for three months, clerk magistrate Mark Concannon said.
Police had sought to charge her with disturbing a public assembly, and today’s hearing was held to determine if such a charge was warranted.
Mr Concannon said police agreed to suspend the complaint after considering O’Leary’s clean record and the severity of her injuries.
“Based on her medical record, she may never be able to run again,” Mr Concannon said, adding: “She still walks very slowly and with a noticeable limp.”
