Doherty escapes charges over October arrest

Troubled rocker Pete Doherty has escaped formal charges following his arrest in October over suspected drug possession.

The Babyshambles star spent the night in a Shrewsbury, England, police station after cops searched his band's tour bus on 1 October.

West Mercia Police confirmed yesterday Doherty has now been released from bail and no further action will be taken.

Detective Sergeant Jason Wells says: "A man arrested in Shrewsbury on 1 October on suspicion of a drugs offence will not be prosecuted."

At the time of his arrest, Doherty told the press, officers had mistaken an implant aimed to keep him sober, for narcotics.

However, Doherty faces further legal trouble after his arrest last week on suspicion of possession of crack cocaine.
