Kate Moss 'checks into rehab centre'
Supermodel Kate Moss has checked into a US rehab clinic, it was reported today.
The 31-year-old is reportedly receiving treatment at the Meadows centre in Arizona after allegations of cocaine abuse.
The clinic has previously treated celebrities including Paul Gascoigne, Tara Palmer-Tomkinson and Michael Barrymore.
Moss will have none of the luxuries she is used to.
She will have to share a room with other addicts and submit to the clinicâs tough regime.
Phone calls home â even to her three-year-old daughter, Lila â are banned, along with cigarettes.
The clinic offers help to âindividuals seeking treatment for recovery from toxic and abusive livingâ.
Moss reportedly enrolled in the 30-day, ÂŁ20,000 (âŹ29,324) programme on the advice of fellow supermodel Elle Macpherson, who was treated there for post-natal depression in 2003.
It girl Tara Palmer-Tomkinson has described the Meadows regime as âhellâ.
The clinic treats alcoholism, drug addiction, sex addiction and eating disorders.
Staff have no regard for celebrity status and the clinic does not just help the rich and famous â many of the US patients have their treatment paid by health insurance.
Former cocaine addict Palmer-Tomkinson has said: âIt was hell â you have nothing with you, and no-one knows who you are, so I couldnât even play on that. I was practically just a number.
âI envisaged myself having manicures by the side of the pool, talking about cocaine with a rock star from LA, but they bring you right down to humility.â
She said of the other addicts: âThey come in off the street. It was like One Flew Over The Cuckooâs Nest. I was around these people who didnât have families, friends or any money, and some of them had a prison sentence to look forward to.
âI suddenly thought: âIâve got so much to live for and people rallying for me back there and I shouldnât throw my life away.â
âIt was as simple as this. You think: âDo you want to live or do you want to die?â It sounds awfully dramatic, but itâs true.â
Moss has already lost lucrative contracts with H&M, Chanel and Burberry after a newspaper published pictures of her allegedly snorting cocaine.
The video footage is to be shown in a Sky One documentary on Monday night.
