Superstar Sting is breathing a sigh of relief after his alleged stalker has been arrested for bombarding the singer with emails and phonecalls.

The former Police frontman, 53, has called in the cops to help end the abuse from Laura Sgarella, who sent correspondence of an intimate kind between March 10 and May 13 last year and claims to have had an affair with the father-of-six.

A police source tells British newspaper News of the World: "This woman is accused of sending many letters and emails.

"It has been very distressing for him and the police have taken necessary steps to end it."

London-based Sgarella denies the charges and is expected to stand trial at the capital's Ealing Magistrate on March 17.
