Living TV wins top industry award

Living TV, the station which brought British and Irish viewers Queer Eye For The Straight Guy, has been named Channel of the Year.

It has beaten bigger-hitting terrestrial rivals BBC2 and Channel 4 to the title, voted for by the TV industry.

Living TV was first to screen the US programme, which gives heterosexual men lessons from gay men on fashion, food, wine and interior design.

The judges said Living TV "put both digital and terrestrial rivals in the shade" and could become the "sixth channel" in multichannel homes in future.

The 10th annual Broadcast Awards named ITV1 show I'm a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! Best Entertainment Programme.

The Secret Policeman, BBC1's undercover investigation into racism in the police force, won Best Documentary.

Shameless, Paul Abbott's Channel 4 drama on the rollercoaster lives of the Gallagher family, was named Best Drama Series, while Brat Camp, the channel's series where badly-behaved teenagers are sent to an American Wilderness Camp, won Best Documentary Series.

Little Britain was named Best Comedy Programme and Strictly Come Dancing Best New Programme.
