Michael Jackson tops UK album chart

Despite being accused of child sex offences, Michael Jackson tonight topped the charts in the UK with his new album, Number Ones.

The collection of the pop star’s hits sold well around the UK this week as police arrested the pop star for allegedly committing lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14.

The album beat punk pop trio Busted’s offering A Present for Everyone.

The two had been battling for top spot all week, with news of Jackson’s arrest fuelling public interest and subsequently spending on the star’s music.

Dido’s album Life For Rent dropped from the top spot down to number three.

But Irish boy band Westlife zoomed into the top spot on the single’s chart with Mandy, closely followed by Girls Aloud’s Jump at number two.

Fame academy winner Alex Parks came in at number three with Maybe That’s what it takes, rounding out a brand new top-three.

Busted’s first single Crashed The Wedding, which had topped the singles charts last week, dropped three spots to number four.

Pop princess Britney Spears dropped from number two down to six, with her single Me Against The Music, featuring Madonna.

Enrique Iglesias just missed out on the top ten, entering the charts with his new single Addicted at number 11.

The albums chart also featured a number of debut albums, with Kylie Minogue’s Body Language debuting at number six.

The Beatles also made a welcome return to the top-ten, their new album Let it Be – Naked entering at number seven.
