The Partridge Family, the 1970s family comedy which starred teen idol David Cassidy and spawned the chart-topping Partridge Family pop act, is coming back to television.

The cable network VH1 is planning two shows about an updated, 2004 Partridge Family who, like their predecessors, will be a made-for-TV band, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The original Family’s hits, featuring Cassidy on lead vocals, included I Think I Love You and I Woke Up In Love This Morning.

Fans of the original series have mixed feelings about a new version. Jennifer Futch, of the Partridge Family Website, C’mon Get Happy! told the Reporter: “The Partridge Family was a success and is remembered fondly because of the unique combination of creative talents of the writers, cast, musicians, et cetera at that time.

“Most efforts to recapture that kind of chemistry are futile. Perhaps it can happen this time, but history indicates that it is unlikely.”
